MIAMI — Tropical Storm Philippe is pushing away into the open Atlantic, easing conditions in Florida and the Bahamas.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm’s center was about 250 miles northeast of Freeport in the Bahamas Sunday afternoon and it was speeding east-northeast at 46 mph.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. It’s expected to become a post-tropical cyclone by Sunday night and be absorbed by a large extra-tropical low on Monday.
Heavy rain on Saturday had caused the National Weather Service in Miami to expand a flood watch to include parts of South Florida, CBS Miami reported. Portions of South Florida, including coastal Collier, inland Collier, and mainland Monroe were urged to take precaution. The flood watch extended until 4 a.m. Sunday.
